Take it to the Bankroll

Submitted by on March 4, 2009 – 5:06 PM3 Comments

bankrollPocketFiver grapsfan, one of the site’s leading writers of articles both useful and humourous, has revisted the notion of bankroll management.  Anyone looking to make poker a career, a hobby, or a lark should heed grap’s useful advice.  For just as knowing how much to raise preflop, or what to do with medium strength hands in early position, or how to handle an over-aggressive maniac near the bubble of a big buy-in tournament, bankroll management is an important tool in the toolbox of every successful poker player.  For if you can’t manage your bankroll properly, you probably won’t have a bankroll to manage for very long.

LOL – I love it when Negreanu beats up on Mike.

  • Hey Jeremy, welcome to the site!

Yeah, I remember that session of HSP, specifically for the Negreanu-vs.-Matusow verbal war. You’d never know those two are BFFs… or, I guess, you probably would, seeing as how only friends can get away with talking like that, without it winding up in a punch to the mouth.

I wonder how much Matusow has borrowed from Negreanu (and others) over the years, just to stay in the games that he can beat? I’m guessing 7-figures, and that’s probably low…

One of my fav poker quotes of all time talks about BR management.

I believe it took place during an episode of HSP, season 2. As usual, Mike Matusow is bragging about how good he is at NLHE. About how he’s only one in a handful of players that actually ‘get’ the game. After hearing enough Daniel Negreanu speaks up, “You know, Mike. You can go on and on and on about how good you are, but you forgot one thing. You gotta have money to play, son.”

    I love it!
