Red Hot gets on ESPN… Kind Of

aa4a_1When it was announced that none of the $1500 tournaments from the 2009 World Series of Poker would appear on television, it dashed the hopes of the 20 or Red Hotters who had won their seats into event #54.  It appeared that none of us would see our friendly mugs on the boob tube.

This all changed, unexpectedly, when the 2009 Ante-Up for Africa tournament had its television run in Canada earlier this week.  Though none of the Red Hot Vegas Invasion team ponied up the charitable dough to play in the tournament, a couple of us still got some TV facetime.

Shelley Reinhart (who was actually *touched* by Ben Affleck on this day) caught fleeting glimpses of her own face, behind Sarah Silverman’s right shoulder (click the image to enlarge):

Shelley also caught a glimpse of your humble author, moments before he (I) was eaten by Giant Charles Barkley:

Clearly this is only a warm-up for Shelley and I, as one or both of us will one day appear on ESPN actually sitting down and playing poker at a poker table, instead of just loitering in the background.  Good luck to us.

You can watch the Ante-Up for Africa episodes here.

UPDATE:  Sal Villaluz — who currently has a comofortable lead atop the Season 15 Red Hot leaderboard — made a quick appearance in this week’s Main Event episode:

Here he is on the left, in his PartyPoker hat, watching as Matt Calhoun gets involved in a hand with Phil Hellmuth, which winds up setting off Phil’s only eruption of the broadcast.  A Main Event episode featuring 2 hours of Hellmuth and only one eruption?  Next thing you’re going to tell me that a Red Hot player got to sit at the featured table!

Oh wait…
